User Access Control (UAC) in Windows Vista is truly annoying. One of the first things I did was turn that off. It's not clear to me how that impacts overall security.
It should be mentioned, though, that the Mac OS X has the same 'feature' - it requires you to enter your password to perform certain functions.
The Mac ads do take some liberties with the truth. For example, there's a prevalent idea that Vista requires a major upgrade in hardware, but that is simply not true. Any machine that can run XP can run Vista. Vista may run a bit slower on some hardware, but it will run.
That's a good point. When I install software, I do have to enter my password so that OS X knows I am authorizing it. But, I don't install software all that often, so I very rarely run into that issue.
Both Apple and Microsoft are throwing around statements that are brimming with 'truthiness'. I saw an interview with Bill Gates where - either he's entirely lost in his own world - or he lies like crazy. I'll post the link to the article soon.
